TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

Battery Tripping Units are commonly used for:

  • High-voltage switchboards

  • Substations

  • Mining installations

  • Industrial power distribution

  • Water and wastewater infrastructure

  • Process plants

  • Utilities

  • Pulp and paper installations

  • Railway and transport infrastructure

  • Critical industrial protection systems

Battery Tripping Units (BTUs) provide a dedicated and dependable DC supply for the operation of high-voltage switchgear and protection equipment. Designed to remain operational during an AC supply failure, the BTU ensures that circuit breakers and associated protection systems retain the energy required to operate when it is needed most.

Electrical Manufacturing designs and manufactures Battery Tripping Units for industrial, utility, mining, water and infrastructure applications. Our BTUs are configured around the requirements of the installation, incorporating a battery charger, standby battery system, DC distribution and monitoring functions within a robust industrial enclosure.

The charger maintains the connected battery bank at the required float voltage while simultaneously supplying the normal standing DC load. In the event of an AC supply interruption, the battery automatically assumes the DC load, providing uninterrupted power to critical protection and tripping circuits.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

BTUs can be configured to accommodate the specific requirements of the switchgear and protection system. Battery capacity is selected according to the connected standing load, required tripping current and specified standby autonomy, ensuring the system has sufficient stored energy to operate critical equipment during a loss of the incoming AC supply.

Depending on the application, units can incorporate DC distribution, circuit protection, instrumentation, alarms, battery monitoring and other control functions required by the installation.

ENGINEERED FOR PROTECTION OF CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

A Battery Tripping Unit is a critical component of the protection system rather than simply a battery charger. Correct sizing of the charger, battery bank and DC distribution system is essential to ensure reliable operation under both normal and emergency conditions.

Electrical Manufacturing's BTUs are designed around the complete DC system requirements, taking into consideration standing load, breaker operating currents, battery characteristics, required autonomy and site conditions. This application-specific approach allows the BTU to provide dependable DC power throughout the operational life of the installation.
